Six years after they donated $70 million to USC to create a specialized educational program, music industry executive Jimmy Iovine and rapper Dr. Dre helped cut the ribbon today on a specialized campus building to house the program.

Iovine and Young Hall – Dr. Dre's real name is Andre Young – is billed by the university as a “new kind of learning space featuring technology-rich printing, electronics labs and alumni incubator space.”

The 40,000-square-foot building serves as home to the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation, which was founded in 2013 with the pair's multimillion-dollar gift to the university. The academy focuses on four curriculum areas: art and design; technology and engineering; business and venture management; and communication.

When the program was announced, university officials said the academy is for students whose interests span fields such as marketing, business entrepreneurship, computer science and engineering, audio and visual design and the arts.

The four-year academic program includes one-on-one faculty mentoring, opportunities to interact with luminaries from the arts and entertainment industry serving as guest speakers and lecturers, and a broad array of internship opportunities for students.
